Delicious authentic Mexican food! I've tasted several Mexican restaurants all over the nation as a truck driver & have found this restaurant to be the most hospitable in service & the tastiest food I've ever had. I love the ambience & the way that they prepare their meat is unlike any other, you can tell they make their food from scratch and with love! I recommend this place to everyone in the area or just passing through.

If you're reading this while in the restaurant, get up, get out, and go somewhere else. 1.15 hours for "fish" tacos that were unpalatable. Really, really disappointing service, ambiance, and level of noise. This is not a restaurant worthy of your time.

Gets service! Good food! We got in pretty quick, especially for at Friday night at 7pm. The margaritas are huge, chips are fresh and service was quick. Not much more I could ask for after a week like this. It's loud and festive, which is perfect for my 3 children.

Way under staffed for a full house at lunch. Waited about ten minutes for a table. Five more minutes before we had salsa and chips. About ten minutes before the waiter took our order. For a place that advertises on the radio about a speedy lunch, this isn't promising. Got here about 12:15 on a Thursday. It is 12:40 and we just got our drinks. We ordered some tacos to dine in and a steak fajita to go. At 1:05 we were apologized to, yet again, for the wait. A table who arrived an unknown amount of time before us just got their food. At 1:15, "We've only got like three guys working the kitchen" was what we just heard him tell another table. At 1:17, lunch arrived. Back in a few to tell you if it was worth the wait. Shrimp were small for the shrimp tacos. Beans and rice were just okay. Since my son filled up on chips, salsa and soda refills, we will have to wait an see how the beef tacos were for reheated dinner. My 13 year old son's comment, without prompting was: "I will be buying a house and paying taxes before we get get our check." Check came. Charged me for an extra sour cream. Didn't bother trying to fix it since it is now 1:36 and we are finally getting ready to leave. Everyone has a bad day. Every place has bad days. However, waiting for 45 mins for food (lunch) at a Mexican Restaurant in a military town is really too long. No manager in sight, so I didn't bother asking for one. Hopefully he is in the kitchen helping play catch up. I keep forgetting to try out Taco Gyro. Definitely headed there next time. Thinking of this lengthy lunch will remind me.

I stopped in on what seemed to be a pretty busy night for dinner and had a lovely evening! The beers are cheap if you're willing to pass on the Margarita, and the Mole Chicken makes for a hearty meal with leftovers. I would pass on the queso dip if I went back (it was a pricy, huge portion and didn't taste that great to me), but I would absolutely get the mole chicken again.

The tacos and margaritas were delicious. They also had sopapilla, which they turned into some sort of meat bun. It's still good.

Good food. Nice service. I'd go again. Food was more traditional which was good. There were options for salsa which is always good to me. The interior was nice. The service for a busy lunch was good and friendly.

Since Gordo's closed in Tucson, La Casita has the best Chimichangas I've found. The atmosphere is clean & pleasant. The service is always friendly & usually reasonably fast, & I almost everything I've tried here is good. It's price point is a little high for Mexican food in SE AZ, but no more than you'd expect at any mid-range restaurant. Sometimes it can be a little crowded at lunch, & the quest dip is no bueno, but I've almost always had a good dining experience.

Akways enjoy it here. Great food and service. Been going for about 10 years. Order the carnitas.

  • Sandra R.

Just average food. Very loud because the voices from all tables bounce off of the walls. Been this way for years. We have gone for taco Tuesdays and the best thing about this night is the tacos are better than Taco Bell.

This restaurant is rated at 3 stars and it should be a 5. The friendly service and delicious food was great. If you are reading this and not sure to eat here, give the restaurant a shot and you will not be disappointed.

Terrible food. The tortillas were bought in and undercooked. The chicken was dry and bland. Out of 10 people in our party 9 dishes were microwaved, the one thing wasn't microwaved but fried instead. The service was great, thus the 2 stars instead of one. This place had me wishing I went to filibertos to just some Carne asada fries. Please don't take people you care about here, 3 of us got sick after our meal.

It was recommended that I try this place out as it had been around for a long time and was a locally owned non franchise establishment with authentic Mexican food. Figured it would be worth my while. I ordered the carne Asada chimichanga and was disappointed. The tortilla was over fried and was hard as a rock. The beans were bland and the cheese that topped it was one big mess. The rice was over cooked and tasted as if the batch had burned and they scooped the good parts out. The carne Asada was tough and bland as if only seasoned with salt. I wasn't impressed. I've had better Mexican food in Boston.

  • Matthew H.

Fish tacos were dry and flavorless, rice was over cooked and had no flavor, black beans were nasty!!! Stay away from here. I am not sure what is good if anything but what I ordered was horrible. I choked down the tacos and left the rest!

Just a quick write up on the carnitas. I always order carnitas if it's on the menu, no matter what Mexican restaurant I'm at. El Paso, San Antonio, So Cal, and my ex-mother in law. These carnitas ranked #2 on my list. Roasted pork, and fresh onions and peppers served on a sizzling fajita platter. Simple, flavorful and satisfying. Of course, it's served with 3 healthy sized tortillas, pico and salsa.

I love cheese enchiladas. They were ok, nothing special. I'd rather just make my own. My husband got Carne Asada, if there were truth in advertising it would have been called Concrete Asada. He didn't like it at all. Everybody has a bad day so we decided to go again for their great deal taco Tuesday and went for tacos. They have better tacos at taco bell (and I don't like them either). Now, I've had their catered food and after the other visits, I found it is surprisingly good. I don't understand the disparity. Perhaps the people who are better cooks are in charge of the catering.

Very nice atmosphere, live music. I had the chimichanga with shredded chicken unfortunately chicken was dry with little favor. So dinner was just average. The ground beef tacos were just normal.

Great place for Happy Hour after work but the food just wasn't that great. Corona-nitas: Big margarita + 8oz Corona bottle in it.....GREAT DRINK!! Cheese Enchiladas: very very greasy, rice & beans were so-so. Oddly no tortilla were served with meal Chicken Chimichanga: chicken was dry, and tasted bland Beef Chimichanga: lots of greasy hamburger meat, but Lacked flavor. Pass me the Salt & Pepper.

Fantastic carnitas!! The service is friendly, salsas are tasty, and the menu varied. I also like the chile relleno.

Just so-so: ambiance very fun, friendly prompt service. Ive had better and more authentic mexican food in Pennsylvania. The churros for dessert were above average.

  • Knight R.

I first ate at La Casita probably 8 years ago. It wasn't bad, I would say average. The last few times I have been there though I have felt like their standards have dropped and they are just phoning it in. Bland food, average service, etc... I think they survive off people remembering what it used to be and thinking it might return to that standard or just being in close proximity to the base it is easy to hold farewells and whatnot there.

Taco Tuesday!!! $1 tacos, cheap beer and $1 margaritas until 7:00pm. Love this place on Tuesdays!!!

I had been to Sierra Vista on 5 occassions already and kept getting told to go here, but finally took the time to try this place out for authentic mexican so close to the border. I had the nana's mole and several margaritas since it was margarita night. The $4 agave margarita was really good. The food was around par. The free chips/salsa were about the same I've had from any chain (on the Border, etc.). The Mole was pretty good and something I don't remember ever seeing at a chain place. The tortillas seemed kind of out place to eat with it, but I made mini taco's. The service was excellent though and the waitress was really great at making suggestions and checking up on us. I'm not rushing back, but definitely not a bad place.

I would not return if you paid me. Now, here's why... The front of the restaurant is decorated with gaudy fluorescent lights. All different colors illuminate the store front, which catch your attention when you drive past. You have a choice of about half a dozen parking spaces in front. All the other customers have to pull into the parking lot of the hotel next door. For any business owner who has experienced overflow into their parking lots, you would understand how much wear and tear this puts onto someone else's parking lot. Not to mention the loss of parking spaces for their hotel guests. Anyway, this is not the worst of it by far! We entered the restaurant to be greeted by a very cheerful hostess. She took us to one of the back rooms of the restaurant where we sat beside a candle. The noise level was deafening! I couldn't hear my dining companion for anything!! Chips were delivered to our table (they set the bowl of chips over a candle... for what reason, I'm not sure since the candle wasn't big enough to heat the chips). We were offered spicy or mild salsa. Being anti-spice girls, we ordered the mild. The chips were unsalted, standard chips. The salsa was pretty good... What was terrible was waiting for our waiter to come to our table. It was a full TEN minutes after the chips arrived before he even came to take our drink order! We made it easy and both ordered Dr Pepper. It took another FIVE minutes to get them! We both ordered the cheese enchilada dinners. We waited for what felt like forever for them to arrive. When they did, they looked delicious... They weren't! The rice, while it had good flavor, was horribly undercooked and crunchy. The beans were decent, but nothing to write home about. My dining companion's cheese enchiladas were so overpowered by the red sauce they had poured over it, she couldn't taste anything but the sauce. Mine tasted of only raw onions. The waiter asked how everything was, and we registered our complaints. He offered to bring the manager, and, when we continued to be unsatisfied, he went to get her... Not that she made matters any better. In fact, she made them worse!!! She came to the table, and we began telling her our complaints. "The rice is crunchy," we told her. "Well, we've been serving it like that all day," she responded. "All I can taste is onion in my enchilada," I informed her. "Well, there IS onion in the enchiladas. But, there's nothing you can do about how stout an onion is. An onion tastes like onion," she defended. Good customer service would have called for her to listen patiently to our complaints. Then, apologize and offer us some options. Would we like more beans in place of the rice? Would we like for the chef to remake the enchiladas with no onions and the sauce on the side? Would we like the menu to order something different? She was so DEFENSIVE, she didn't listen to what we were saying! Because she didn't hear our complaints, she didn't offer us any acceptable solutions. Also, she should have checked with her chef and had him taste what we were complaining about. Apparently, everyone that night was destined to get crunchy rice and overpowering onion. I mean, a chef who works so frequently with onions should have known that soaking a strong onion in ice water for about 10 minutes will remove some of that potency! She gave us no option to order something else, and simply comped our meals (which we didn't eat). She didn't even bother to tell us herself. The waiter returned and informed us that we weren't being charged for anything. So, we left to search elsewhere for dinner. I just love leaving a restaurant I've been sitting in for over half an hour still hungry.

Its an okay place to eat Mexican food, standard fare. Sometimes they run out of cheese to make enchiladas...the salsa is average, if you want spicy ask for it... Not a bad place, but not the best i had for Mexican food. The fajitas are okay, I would consider the combo plate instead. Bottom line, its okay for the family and enjoy.

  • Karen B.

Since we were there on $1.00 taco of your choice night I shouldn't complain but it was all bland and chicken, beef and machacas were dried out, salsa had no flavor. House margaritas had no tequila in them but the service was the best. Very busy place with a festive atmosphere. We would go back but would spice up our order a bit.

My go to spot for Mexican in SV! Great food, good prices, attentive service and a fine selection of beer.. Try the fish tacos.. They're excellent and go there when Selena, that beautiful blond angel of a bar tender, is there. Her presence will make your night..

Love the vibe and the food I have had was pretty tasty. I usually get the low carb chicken la casita salad which is delish! Although saladis usually boring, they make it so goooood! The service is great as well, my only complaint is that their drinks are over priced. I had a margarita for lunch and although good, it was small and six dollars. It was weak and for this town, the cost was unreasonable. Other than that, great place to eat with cool knick knacks on the wall :)

Let me start out by saying I have never had such bad service in my life. The waiter took my whole tables order wrong, after he read it back to ne he still got it wrong. There was a girl serving every time she walked by she hit me with a key chain. I will never go back here service awful wait time long and the total lack of smarts or brains is appalling. They never came back to check on us I had to flag our waiter down for the check. The place is always packed and so loud there is no way to even talk to people at your table.

Strawberry Burrito!!!! Tacos are great also!

Is it possible to give 0 stars? Just walked out of the restaurant. We informed the manager we were not fans of the food. She said "it's southwest Mexican". No, that was not Mexican food. When the bill was brought we were charged the full price even though we had maybe two bites before it was taken away. The manager was overly defensive and very unhelpful. Most definitely don't recommend this place. You're better off at Taco Bell.

We've been stationed at Fort Huachuca for 13 months, and this is the best Mexican food we've found near post. The quality of food is always high; I especially love the spicy salsa and always order a pint to go, even after slathering tons of it on my chips and entrée. For awhile the service was quite poor, but it's improved in the last couple of months.

    (4)
  • Alex P.

horrible! Poor service, hot, crowded and the "tacos" were a joke. I get better tacos at 2am drunk from jack in the box. its over priced and I will never go back. filbertos one block over has better food.

Good carnitas tacos, multiple salsas and friendly servers. We enjoyed our dinner and were pleasantly surprised based on the other less than favorable yelp reviews

When first walked in hard strange sweaty musty smell, yet still stick around. The menu does not have any burrito meals, waitress said just too order enchilada meal and they won't fry it then it burrito. Hmm, so far not impressed. The salsa is so so with possibly store bought chips. Got my food not overly impressed.

  • Richard F.

This could be the worst Mexican food on Earth. Stale chips, $12 Margarita, and a crappy atmosphere. They charge extra for everything.. For instance, a Mexican pizza is a tortilla with cheese on top and you have to pay extra for beans, tomatoes, guacamole, etc. Good waiter, but kind of green. Would not go back.

    (1)
  • Brian M.

This place has the most UNauthentic mexican food ever. If I had to compare it to a better known pseudo mexican chain I would say its an over priced taco bell with just slightly better quality. Point blank as others have said, This shit sucks.

    (1)
  • Hazel G.

Weird looking on the outside, but feels like an authentic Mexican restaurant inside. Not bad food, decent prices, but the food was very bland and the selection wasn't that big. The Mexican band was really neat and livened the place up a lot.

    (4)
  • Doug W.

Mild salsa is too tomatoeee and the hot has no textures. The chili rellano tasted store bought and old. I will not be back.

That place was absolutely filthy you can see filth on the walls and ceiling fans I'm from Southern California and I know good Mexican. if you like eating at dirty restaurant enjoy yourselves but I will not be going back

Being so close to the Mexican border, I had higher hopes for this restaurant. Regardless, I had a very pleasant dining experience. Even though we had a large group and got there during the dinner rush, we waited less than 5 minutes for a table. It was a few minutes before our waitress came over, but she brought chips and three different kinds of salsa, which she continued to fill throughout dinner, which was nice. We ordered the cheese crisp as an appetizer, and it was surprisingly good. Warm melted cheese, crispy crust, not greasy at all. The food also cooked quickly, coming out shortly after we finished the appetizer. The orders were perfect, except for an order of fajitas were missing the tortillas. The waitress apologized, and just a few moments later brought out a fresh cooked plate of them. I had the stuffed sopapilla filled with chorizo and beans. It was awesome, although the chorizo was a little salty. I had to pay extra for guacamole, but it got me a good sized glop. The food was decently priced, and everyone left absolutely stuffed. The only complaints were that there were only two bathrooms; single person and on opposite sides of the restaurant. The interior layout is odd, lots of small connecting rooms that don't make a lot of sense, like the building has been added onto many times. There's little parking, and the dining areas can get loud. Other than that, it seemed like a great place I wouldn't mind going back to.

    (4)
  • Samuel J.

Not the most authentic Mexican food, but it is consistently good. I usually end up getting the chicken chimichanga--the chicken is moist and well-flavored. The "hot" sauce isn't very hot, but it's not bad. The chips are good.

    (3)
  • Steven A.

Best I can say is "average." And by average I don't mean the average of what you would expect twenty or so miles from the Mexican border. I mean average of what you would expect in Podunkville, USA. The food was edible but I found the carnitas to be overly salty and somewhat dry. The salsa they served with the chips was tasteless. I asked for hot sauce and they gave me what looked like a homemade concoction of mashed up chili peppers. It was okay but not as hot as I would have preferred. The only thing I really liked was the pinto beans they served as a side. I had to drown my sorrows in a couple of Dos Equis drafts and a shot of Patron. At least they do the booze right. Bathroom was filthy.

Food here is great. Beef chimichanga is really good as well as the Salmon entree. Nice ambiance here as well, but parking does suck.

After my trip to Las Cruces/El Paso last week, I lamented the lack of quality Mexican options in Sierra Vista. Of course people were quick to defend the local institution that is La Casita. So I thought in the interest of fairness I would post a review of the place to spell out why exactly I think they fall a bit short. One disclaimer before I begin, unlike most of my reviews, this is based on a past experience, not a more recent trip to the restaurant. Service: 4/5 I've never had bad service at La Casita, but I've never had great service either. I'm sure we've all had those experiences, both negative and positive, where a server or a hostess or some staff member really does something that you remember. I haven't had that experience at La Casita, which is both a good and a bad thing. They've never done anything terrible to me, but they have never done anything to impress me, and I've been coming here off and on for over six years. Food: 3/5 The food here is simply passable. I find most of the dishes lack flavor and play it "safe." I have sampled many, many things from their menu and nothing has stood out to me as an amazing dish. The mole probably comes the closest to something impressive. The salsa in particular is just totally unimpressive. They give you two kinds, one "mild" and one "hot." The mild salsa tastes like little more than runny ketchup, and the hot is nothing but heat. It has no real flavor of its own. Your best bet is to mix the two together and they make something at least somewhat tasty. Perhaps I have been spoiled by really excellent Mexican food in places like El Paso and Yuma, and maybe that is unfair to La Casita. But their food is just bland, boring, and uninspired. It'll satisfy your need for a taco or a burrito, but there is nothing here that will have you wishing to come back for more. Overall Impressions: 4/5 The atmosphere in La Casita fits perfectly. The lighting, decor, etc. all fit the rustic Hispanic theme that you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Being one of the few Mexican options in Sierra Vista, and the town being a BIG lunch town, the place tends to be packed at lunch hour. So plan accordingly. As far as prices go, it is reasonable. I find it a little high for what it is, but that is because I am not too impressed with their food in general. It really isn't that overpriced. So in general, if you want some Mexican food, La Casita will fit the bill. But more than likely, you'll walk out wishing there was someplace better to go.

  • Katherine D.

The food was ok. I am from Northern Kentucky and we have a lot of Mexican restaraunts that are really really good. I guess, since Arizona is so close to the Mexican border I thought this would be a real treat. Instead, it was EXACTLY like most Mexican places you will find literally throughout the US. We have 2 places in NKY that are far far better and even seem more authentic than this place. The food was good though. The company was better. I was out visiting a friend and spending time with her made this lunch good, not the foot.

Probably the best Mexican restaurant in town. The owners are military friendly and are always donating. They have a friendly staff.

On a business trip in Sierra Vista this week, we asked for recommendations of local restaurants and following a halfhearted recommendation from a colleague who "doesn't really like Mexican food", hit this local spot for lunch. Upon walking in, we were overtaken by a wonderful smell that can only mean spicy food ahead. Seating was quick, the room was pretty busy yet it remained homey, orders for beverage were quick... and then our appetizer: the Queso!!! O-M-G, THE SENOR QUESO: try the Asadero (not the Velveeta), and pour some of their homemade hot sauce on top, it's queso heaven!... Si Si SIIIII!!!! Our entrees followed shortly thereafter. I had the Albondigas soup, consisting of a cup of delicious concoction from an old family recipe with rice and veggies peeking from behind 3 humongous homemade albondigas, equally delicious. I can totally see someone's abuelita making and serving this soup at her family table. My colleague had a quesadilla plate, very generously sized and served with all the trimmings including sides of fresh guacamole and sour cream, it hit the spot... both at lunch and dinner since she had to pack half to go! Prices were reasonable, service was friendly, and although I agree it was more Tex-Mex than Mexican as other people have said, I've lived in the Southwest for 3 years now and being an international traveler and foodie I can tell you that I have not been to any "Mexican" restaurant that was 100% "authentic" on the US side of the border, so you can all stop the crying and whining. If you want authentic Mexican, cross the border, it's right there! PD: I WANT and NEED the recipe for their hot sauce ... pretty pleeeease???? So good!

Not sure what happened to this place, it used to be an icon in the area. Now- poor service, awful food, and a manager whose solution to our completely unacceptable, undercooked meal was a 10% discount. I've been in Sierra Vista 26 years, and used to consider it the go-to for Mexican food. Now, I may never go back again. The only part of the meal that was correct was the iced tea. Flat out awful.

The best Mexican food I've had since I moved to Arizona from SoCal! I don't understand the negative reviews here. Y'all must not know real Mexican food when you taste it but if you're from the East Coast then I understand why! Too bad. Keep up the good grub! Can't wait to visit again!

I've noticed some new reviews this year, and again people for Virginia and Maryland are complaining about it being too salty. YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!! Of course when you grow up a thousand miles from the border, you're gonna be used to bland flavorless mexican food. This is the real deal. And to the guy that actually recommended that you skip La Casita and go down the street to the roach infested taco stand Rodolfo's? Put down the meth pipe buddy! La Casita is the best! Period!

  • Paul M.

The best carnitas I have had in years, home made salsa, chips, and tortillas were excellent. Recommend you wash it down with the local pale ale. Very, very good!

More like 2.5 stars... The decor inside is typical Mexican, bright colors, brick and stone arches etc. Pricing is fair in my opinion. The food... is well, ok. It is typical mexican food. Nothing especially noteworthy (except for the bad things) but typical, standard, and expected. The one thing that REALLY bothered me (and my father in law) was the "green" sauce served with the chile rellenos. We were initially confused as to why the relleno was served with brown gravy, and when we asked our waitress, she explained that it was in fact a mild green sauce. Unfortunately it did not taste like green sauce- it tasted like a chicken based brown gravy. So consider yourself warned. The beans and rice are good. The cheese enchiladas tasted like the cheese inside was a processed cheese (which really irks me). BUT the shredded beef crispy taco I ate was delicious and I would definitely order that again. All in all, not a bad place to eat, but not a great place either. Service was OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

This place is horrible. If you know Mexican at all you will not go there! Plus it's way overpriced and lack of customer service. Number one reason why you shouldn't go there is because of the food, it tastes like canned food! LITERALLY! Disgusting food. Chili's or Taco Bell has better Mexican food.

I've been on the hunt for awesome Mexican food since I have moved to SV last spring. I've enjoyed some places, didn't like other places... I heard a lot of good things about La Casita, but I must say I was disappointed. They have a varied menu, and a very good atmosphere, but my service was sub-par, the food I order was okay, but what irked me was the salsa... it tasted like that vinegar-y Tostitos salsa out of a jar. One of my favorite things I look forward to when I go out to a Mexican restaurant, is fresh salsa. Disappointed.

    (2)
  • Katherine M.

The food was mediocre. I was expecting much better. I had the shredded chicken taco salad. It was necessary to add most of the hot salsa for some flavor. The chips weren't fresh. I won't go back.

I would go here again, had the lunch special, the service was good, the food tasted pretty good. Loved their margarita with the coronita in it. They were super helpful with things to do for the kids.

Have eaten at La Casita for about two years -- this was one of my first restaurants for a meal when I arrived in SV. There is really nothing major to complain about -- also, nothing memorable to note as well. The place is sort of like a local monument that people just keep going back to -- only because there are so few alternatives. My office goes there often for group birthday's/etc. -- really cannot complain about the service for the 8 or 10 of us. As someone else noted, they do serve the food to the large groups all at once -- usually no one has to wait for his/her food. On the whole, the servers are friendly and seem to always refill the water or ice tea regularly. Re the food -- it is nothing spectacular...while certainly not life threatening (that may be a litte too harsh). Again, as other have pointed out, the food is really pretty main street -- and this is amazing, given the proximity to the border AND the length of time they have been in business. I sense a real complacency with what they are doing at La Casita -- not stretching to make the food/service/atmoshphere/facility better. For a restaurant that has been there as long as it has, I continue to be amazed that they could not have paved the back parking lot by now! This is just goofy! Why in the world should anyone have to put up with a gravel and/or dirt parking lot -- risking a turned ankle or fall -- to say nothing of the dust. They need to consider spending some of their revenues on upgrading the parking...which brings me to my final point... Have you seen the price increases on the recently released menus at La Casita? Most every meal went up at least 15% or more. Yes, I know they are advertising "$7.00 Lunches" -- extremely limited and small portions. The recent price increases will now bring a normal lunch (two chicken enchiladas, with rice/beans) and soft drink/ice tea to well over $12.00. Remember, this is Sierra Vista, Arizona -- not San Francisco or Los Angeles! The only thing I can hope for is that they might -- just might -- finally put some asphalt on the dirt out back and have a proper parking lot. With the price increases and the lunch crowds (assuming no fall off in business), this should not be a long wait for some hard surface out back. Oh good, the office is going there again this week for another birthday lunch! I will make my contribution to the pavement of the parking lot.

Bottom line, go any day except Tuesday. Pretty good for Sierra Vista, average service which is expected for the area. But I repeat do not be tempted into going on Taco Tuesday ($1 tacos). While the $1 taco deal does bring in a larger crowd, the servers generally behave as if they are completely overwhelmed and the sky is falling. Can I get some chips and salsa? Reluctant yes, 10 min later you get it. Can I get a water? Reluctant yes, ten min later you get it. Can I put in a simple order and not get a dirty look and horrible attitude for no reason? Not gonna happen. This attitude persists well after the crowd has dissipated and the restaurant is only 1/3 to 1/2 full...the sky is still falling if one dares to order an additional taco (which the cooks probably love because it takes five seconds to make a taco) or a drink refill.

For a town so close to the Mexican border, I expected the mexican food to be a bit more authentic. That being said, the food was pretty good for what it is - it's just more Tex-Mex than I hoped. This is a big restaurant, but it definitely fills up. Be prepared to wait on a busy night!

What's nicest about La Casita is its atmosphere. It's a historical building and the middle of the restaurant looks especially nice with the light pouring in the skylights. Service is alright but the food is mediocre at best. Not like I was expecting gourmet cuisine, but I was disappointed. The rice didn't taste fresh, seemed like it was sitting for sometime, the taco was tasty and flavorful, and I know this isn't health food, but the amount of oil that dripped from the taco literally covered half my plate. Rodolfo's and Fili's have much better food-now if you could combine their food with the restaurant portion of La Casita, you'd have a pretty damn good restaurant-hope this gives you a good idea.

I've lived in this town for almost three years and I have to admit that the food quality has definitely improved over the past three years. Went for $1 taco night and I was quite impressed with the taste of not only the tacos but the rice and beans, and even the margaritas. But I still give it a 2 and here's why; The customer service is lacking. You ask questions about the food and the servers seem irritated that you may not understand something off the menu. If you order drinks and ask for the drink menu, the drinks do not have the prices on there which should have raised a red flag for me. I ordered a Martguerita and waitress pushed for me and my group to get the "jumbo". So I ordered thinking it would be decent since we were already getting $1 tacos. I end up drinking two and my girlfriend drank one and turns out they were $14 each!. For three drinks it was $45! Me and my friends were quite shocked not only because the size of the drink was marginal for such a price, but because the waitress would push for it but fail to point out the price. On my second drink they made a mistake and I made a complaint and the waitress took forever to rectify the issue and not only that, admitted it was a mistake but made and looked irritated like it was my fault! Needless to say it had been about 1 and half years since I had eaten here because the quality of food was so bad, but when I came back I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. But the service was horrible and the price of margaritas, at a Mexican restaurant no less, was horrendous. So I won't be coming back for a while unless I just want food without high expectations on service and definitely not drinking here.

I'm from Texas and am used to being surrounded by amazing Mexican food... Yet, now living closer to Mexico I can't find one decent place. This restaurant has horrible service, horrible decore and even more horrible food. Don't waste your time or your money. Gave them 2 chances and not giving a 3rd.

Great food, slow service. The foods is pretty good. I have had burritos, tacos, and enchiladas from here and they are all good, but the service had been slow many times... Maybe if they hired more servers that would speed up the service... Decor is decent too... I like the Spanish fountains and terracotta flooring, nice touch.

I live about 25 miles away and go there almost every time I get to Sierra Vista. Food is very good. Consistent. Service is always good. Try the strawberry chimichanga! OMG! Easily serves two.

We went on a weeknight and it was busy, but comfortable and relaxed. Apparently lots of locals. Colorful decor, clean, but the real treat was the food. I had a cheese enchilada and a shredded beef taco and it was delicious. Just sitting here, writing, my mouth is watering thinking about it. I'd ordered the machaca taco, but when I got the shredded instead, I told the waitress not to worry about it. Hubby was equally smitten by his plate. (I got charged for the machaca taco, but it was only 30 cents more, which wasn't enough to put a chink in my happy armor.)

Best happy hour in town! Well, maybe. $3.50 for a proper English pint of beer and happy hour goes until 7. Unheard of! Friendly bar staff. Taco night was a great deal. Definitely on my go to list for Sierra Vista since they have more than just Bud, Coors, etc. They have Fat Tire and some nice Pale Ale from Phoenix. Can't speak for the restaurant, but the bar area is good.

I had dinner here last night and enjoyed it very much, some of the best food in Sierra Vista or anywhere else in the country. Very good! This place should easily be 4.5 stars. Beer prices were cheap as well.

Great place to eat. Waiter Jeremy was good at recommendations. Food was wonderful and plenty of it. Atmosphere is a typical Mexican restaurant. Very busy and loud and decor was Mexican. All in all a great experience. Would recommend it.

Stopped by this place while in Sierra Vista for work. Went for lunch and the place was busy which is always good to see. I ordered the enchilladas with cubes of beef in red sauce. The red sauce was amazing! The beef could have been a bit more tender but it was still really good. Service was friendly and fast. Yummy chips and salsa too. I would recommend this place. :)

This place is delicious. The food is good, their service is good. But the only problems with this place is that when you order Horchata, they put WAY to much ice in it, that it makes the glass look full when its not. Its just full of ice. Also, its a little pricey for what they serve. Overall its a great place (:

Salsa is passable and Shredded beef tacos are decent. Service was quick and friendly. I have definitely paid more for worse food, so I rate the value as good. There are better Mexican places in Arizona, but not in Sierra Vista. Altogether decent Mexican food!

Decent for sit down Mexican in Sierra Vista. The place is cheery on the inside and has okay tacos. I ordered my default Mexican option of choice- carne asada tacos. It came with beans and rice......standard..but not overly decent. Complimentary chips and salsa are a decent standard....the hot salsa is also desirable. The menu is pretty extensive. Interesting looking dessert menu.....if you don't fill up on the usuals. Better than Ricardo's, but if you want a good taco.....skip down the road to Rodolfo's

The most HORRIBLE mexican food ever. The only points they get is the bottomless chips and salsa. The carne asada was tough, my fried shrimp was too fried, they messed up the order and it took forever for our mixed up order to come. People who think the mexican food here is good have probably never had real mexican food or never left Sierra Vista.

I love La Casita! Living in California I am used to having lots of Mexican food to choose from but La Casita is up there with the best of them. I recommend the chile relleno combo plate and the chimichanga. Delicious!

You'll notice a theme to the past few reviews I've done... all restaurants I visited whilst visiting my mother. These are her favorites, not mine. Actually it makes me sad that she and my father love this place as much as they do. It's ARIZONA for goodness sake... 30something miles from Mexico and this is the best place in town? Really? Salty. That's the word I would use to describe the food. Salty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. I LOVE enchiladas. I make them at home myself. I eat either enchiladas or tacos at almost every place I eat. These were so salty I couldn't finish them. The chips were fine... they're chips how can those get screwed up? The salsa was okay, but not very flavorful. They also didn't have Chili Colorado which disappointed me a bit.

went here with a private party in the backroom. had one server for 20 people. they kept the drinks flowing, and the water glasses full. the service was fantastic. i got the salmon. the salmon was good but the veggies were super salty. i tried my husbands carne asada stuff, that was super salty too. i guess the point is to have super salty food so you keep drinking alcohol. it worked.

I should be the Duke of La Casitas because of how many times I have gone here and forgot to check in. I know there are a lot of people who do not like this place but I think it is pretty good. The salsa is a little week but the service, cost, food and atmosphere are all good.

I have not been to La Casita in quite some time and some friends invited me to go last night so I did. I went with a small group (4). The place was not busy and so I was surprised how terrible the service was. It took over 30 minutes to get out dinners and I am still waiting for a refill on the chips and my drink. We had Jeremy and I would have thought he was waiting on the entire place by himself. We ordered dessert and he brought us the wrong thing. When I told him that- he told me that he was sure I had ordered chocolate...not the case. I NEVER order chocolate. I really REALLY want to like this place but it just does not seem to be in the cards... Go elsewhere

Referred here by a local whose family has dined here for decades. Excellent food and a good value. Restaurant was packed during lunch, which is a good indication that it's a success. So what's up with the poor reviews?

La Casita is a good Mexican restaurant in Sierra Vista. My co-workers and I had lunch there today. Parking is sometimes a challenge, but there is a dirt parking lot at the back, and we didn't have any problems. Inside, the decor was authentic, though the seating seemed to be a bit haphazard--it looked like the interior of a house modified to fit a variety of tables and chairs. We sat at a table for 6 near the bar, and the noise levels were moderate, though we could carry on conversation with only a little difficulty. The service was rather quick today in comparison to earlier visits. The food arrived about 15 minutes after we had ordered, and it was standard Mexican fare. I had the #7 (beef taco, chile relleno, and cheese enchilada). It was good, but nothing that knocked my socks off. The waitress refilled our ice-teas and waters often throughout lunch. For dessert, I had the sopapillas, which arrived sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon, and it was very good. My lunch came to about 16 dollars with tip, so it wasn't too pricey, but not as inexpensive as the fast food Mexican place down the street.

It's really just a run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant and it's very overpriced for the food you're getting. I would've considered giving it three stars but they use store-bought chips in a bag for their chips and salsa instead of making them in house. The food here isn't bad, but being so close to the border, one would expect Mexican food to be a little more authentic (and a little more reasonably priced).

I visited this place with my parents, on vacation and craving Mexican. The ambiance was comfortable; both the dining room and bar were dim but colorful, which suited us well for dinner. We read other yelp review lauding the carne asada, and it didn't disappoint. I had the fajitas with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Everything was both well-prepared and abundant. Chips and tortillas tasted and felt like they were made in house. My father proclaimed it was the best Mexican food he'd ever had, though I don't know if that means much, us being from Michigan. Our waiter was possibly the sunniest individual I'd ever met, and his service was great. I'm giving it four stars only because we were seated and somewhat neglected for 10+ minutes without drinks. We eventually sought out someone, and they took our drink orders but didn't offer us water. I debated not deducting a star for this, but I feel offering water is a necessity, especially in a desert. All in all, though, it was a great place to eat; we're currently debating returning there tonight as well.

Number 14, over easy, with chile verde. 'nuff said. La Casita's Huevos Rancheros can't be beat, and they simmer up a mean Albondigas, to boot. There's a bottomless bowl of chips to keep you occupied while you wait, with two types of salsa. The mild salsa is a too-mild tomato-and-chile-based offering, while the hot is all about the chiles. Acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Margaritas are tasty, and there's a large variety to choose from. Apparently they offer some other entrees (aside from the #14) which are also good, but really - when you find a place with some killer huevos rancheros, why bother with anything else? They'll not get a fifth star from me until they do something about the service. Not that they're rude or anything, but everything seems to take forever. I've waited 15 minutes to be seated, only to walk past several empty tables. Seems to be a staffing problem - not enough servers. They can't seat the whole place at once because the already-overworked servers would be able to pay attention to each table even less frequently. Seriously, though, if they'd fix this problem I wouldn't be able to find a thing wrong with this place.

The story: My Zumba lovers organized a farewell luncheon for me, they know La Casita WAS one of my favorite restaurants in town, I got a nasty avocado salad and my friend also received a a pretty bad carne asada tacos plate who noticed th...e meet wasnt good to her taste after eating 1 out of the 3 tacos, I tried it and yes it had a strange flavor...both of us returned the plates and request different ones. When the moment of payment comes a zumba lover who pay for my plate got charged with both of my items (which i didnt know until next morning) but the focus of this story is the my friend who got the tacos gets charge 4 dollars for the plate she returns because she ate 1 taco, the total plate price was 8 dollars, Edda Zumba

I don't really have any complaints about this establishment except that it's very LOUD, not too relaxing. I ordered a couple fish tacos and they were yummy! Fried, crunchy fish... not grilled like they claim. And it was good. The staff, which are mostly kids, were kinda nice. I had to interrupt the hostess from her personal conversation with a friend, so she could seat me. The margaritas were pretty good and the prices are normal.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
